“Let’s be honest with ourselves for a second here, Kai. You and I? We both know that this match isn’t about becoming one of the inaugural champions here in Divine Wrestling. Now don’t get me wrong, winning a title in only my second match here? It’d be a hell of a feat, and I’d have no problem waving that in the face of every sorry sap that has the unfortunate task of standing opposite of me. But our history goes back a little farther than this, doesn’t it? ALPHA Wrestling, last summer. The company it’s first ever “Gauntlet of Glory” tournament, a two block, round robin style battle of the best to determine who would become the company’s inaugural World Heavyweight champion – a little interesting we keep finding ourselves in positions to become the first holders of gold, isn’t it? We were in two separate blocks, but that didn’t keep us from keeping our eyes on each other. You went nearly undefeated, but failed a the final hurdle when you took on the tournament’s runner up, Landon Mitchell. As for me? Well, I wish I could say I had a better showing – a measly oh for five was my final standing. After getting shut out, I wasn’t meant to be with the company much longer, and sure enough, I was eventually, rather quickly, let go from my enhancement talent contract. Yet, just a few weeks later, Zakk Night would give me the opportunity to respark my career, and he brought me in as a protégé…only for me to take my eye of the ball for one second, which led to me being pinned in an elimination tag match where everyone who was pinned? Was fired. Now, I’m on strike two, and I’m back in ALPHA Wrestling…but this time, Kai, as your protégé.”
“And it’s an interesting dynamic, I’m not gonna lie. Squaring off with the man who’s giving me my third chance, squaring off when the man who may literally be my savior, my saving grace. But grace? That has no place in our match on Saga. There will be no graceful back and forth, no technical masterpiece to have people watch in awe, and for Dave Meltzer to award five stars for our masterclass. No, on Saga? When we’re standing in that ring, and all of our history comes to light? You’d think we were mortal enemies. In the exact same way that Kratos approached the Gods and fought them tooth and nail, I’m gonna approach the man I said is almost like a savior to me, and I’m going to STRIKE HIM DOWN! You’re right, I like to talk about scars, because it’s not the fact that I think they make you weaker – I KNOW they’re stronger skin. But they also form reminders, they leave everlasting impressions on the men I face, and I take solace and pride in the fact that as long as they’re earthly bodies continue to roam this plane of existence, a part of me is with them forever, mentally and physically – not just as a token of our past experiences against one another, but as a warning. Those scars are physical warnings not to cross my path a second time. Those very scars are warnings that there is a man, more frightening than the Boogeyman, more terrifying that the things that go bump in the night, and much, MUCH more real than both of those things combined.”
“But I’m not saying all this to scare you, Stevens. I know you’re a man who doesn’t scare easy. You’ve looked into the eyes of many challengers and have taken them all in stride without an ounce of fear within you. Kenny Omega, Landon Mitchell, Aaron Arkham, Braun Strowman – you’ve fought them all, and with nothing but fire and passion in your eyes, you’ve beaten them all. But as high profile as those men are…as much as they could be considered some of the best in the world at what they do, they aren’t me. You see, you yourself have helped resurrect the phoenix that will, in turn, burn YOU down to nothing but ash. I was lost, Kai. I won the PWF International Championship, and then for nearly a year I did nothing of note. I was a no one. Dust. So Kai, I’m eternally grateful for what you did for me – yet, it is also your gravest mistake. Come the appropriately named Saga, the ‘saga’ of Kai Stevens…ends. In it’s place, the phoenix I’ve already become shall rise in it’s stead, and the saga of Miles Taylor…begins.”
“You, much like your mentor Brian Church, will find that your inner desire to help people will ultimately be your downfall. Just like Brian, you will find that those you help, those you teach, will exceed you in every way. World championship numbers are just that – numbers. Legacies are what matter. Who do you think people remember the most in the annals of history – Diesel beating Bob Backland in eight seconds to become WWE Champion in Madison Square Garden? Or Shawn Michaels’ historical bouts with the Undertaker? Stevens, you can accomplish as much as you want. But any title you win? They’re empty victories. They’re completely empty, unless you make the wins mean something. This championship match? Yea, there’s more to it than the championship. And THAT’S what is going to make capturing this gold so much sweeter – the fact that we’re going to spill each other’s blood, sweat, and tears in the name of legacy. In spite of our history, a beautiful story is going to be told. But for you? The next installment in our story is your final chapter. Regardless of my affiliation to your rejuvenated cause, The New Age Plague, I will sacrifice your well-being as a leader if it means leaving MY well-being as an immortal in tact.”
“If it’s your legacy versus mine, then SOMETHING must
BREAK…OR BE BROKEN!”
