It was less than an hour til showtime. Backstage in the divas locker room, Chaise paced back and forth nervously in front of the television monitor that had the countdown until Saga started. She wasn't debuting in the first match of the night, which was a huge relief to the newly signed Divine Diva. Had she been, she didn't know if she would be able to keep herself together. While she's been in front of the cameras on more than one occasion thanks to her modeling career, it was nothing like she was about to experience. To be live on television, instead of strutting down the runway, she would be competing in her first wrestling match against Misty Vega. She didn't know much about her yet, except the little she did in trying to explain who she was in a pathetic little promo. What the hell did Chaise care about her past? Sure, it defined who Misty has become in the present, but in reality, Chaise didn't give a damn about who helped merge Misty into Misty. That didn't explain to Chaise who Misty was as of today. The only thing that Chaise got out of it was a good laugh. That, and that Misty was over confident heading into this match. While both divas were indeed debuting, and Misty had experience, Chaise was pretty good at reading people. And Misty seemed nervous herself, and whether the girl realized it or not, didn't phase Chaise. It made Chaise feel a little better going into this match up.
"The girl is already acting like we are going to be life long friends. She's already offering me her hand of service after she beats me to help me climb the ladder. As noble as the gesture is, I'm sorry Misty but I'm going to have to turn it down. For you see, there is someone better. Some one greater to be exact, that has already offered to help me out in this federation called Divine. Someone that has offered me a greater service than you ever could. And unfortunately for you Misty, that person is going to help me take out yourself!" Chaise mutters to herself.
It was true. Someone more advanced in this new federation has offered their hand to Chaise. Multiple offers poured in to be exact, but there was only one person that Chaise felt comfortable to accept the help from. People were probably going to be surprised by this, shall we say, alliance? Union? Fraction? Whatever people wanted to call it, people would be dumbfounded. It surprised Chaise herself, given the reputation that this person had. They were feared. They were fearless. They were.... perfect.
"I appreciate the offer, kind of," Chaise continued talking to herself. "However, I'm going to have to politely reject it. I hope she doesn't take it the wrong way. It's just that, well, once I beat Misty herself, why would I need help from a loser?"
Chaise stops pacing and goes to sit down on one of the metal chairs in front of the locker assigned to her from one of the crew members. She sits there in her ring gear. A pair of bright pink booty shorts and a black top with the words "Chaise Me". Most people thought her name was pronounced like a Chaised lounge chair. But it was really in pronounciation with the word chase. Her mother just liked the spelling better or something, she didn't know. Her black knee high stockings were embezzled with hot pink rhinestones, and her wrestling boots were designed with football styled stitching. Her hair was pulled back in two pigtails, and her make up was lightly done. She has seen how some of the women over did their dramatic look for the cameras in these wrestling shows, and Chaise thought they looked quite ridiculous. To over dramatize ones self while going down to kick the ass of another made little to zero sense.
"I hope that Misty isn't going to dress up like half of the clowns around here," Chaise mutters. "If anything it will only be a distraction. Look at the slobs that I'm working with!"
Makeup lined the sink and vanities in the locker room. Shaking her head she places her elbows on her knees, and clasps her chin with both hands resting on the palms. It was going to be a lonely wait as the person she was apprenticing was no where to be found.
"I was hoping to chat a few last minute words before my match against this Vega chick," Chaise continued to address no one. "Oh wells, I had to be on my own at some point for this match. It's not like they were going to accompany me down to the ring or anything."
The door opens up and Chaise looks up to see some of the divas entering for last minute touch ups. Rolling her eyes, Chaise gets off the chair and heads out before she became one of the showgirls. As she exits, shes suddenly greeted by someone with a microphone.
"Chaise, we were hoping that we would be able to get a few words in from one of the more recently signed superstars to enter Divine this week!" a perky reporter chirps. "Would you mind answering a few questions?"
Chaise freezes, but quickly recomposes herself.
"Uh, sure, I guess so," she states unsurely.
"Great! Today, you debut in your first match here against a famously known, Misty Vega. How do you feel going into this match?" the interviewer asks.
"I guess as good as can be expected. Misty seems like a decent human after watching her latest promo. I couldn't find much about here on the internet, I don't know if that's due to lack of popularity or lack of publicized events, but she seems like she semi knows what she is doing. I'm actually looking forward to competing against her tonight," Chaise tells them.
"Are you as confident as Misty appears about winning this competition?" the interviewer asks.
"Well, in my opinion, no one should enter a match confidently. Do I think I have a shot? Absolutely. Do I guarantee a win? This is my first match and I'm not even sure what I'm capable of doing myself. Unlike Misty, who has already guaranteed you all a victory, I'm stepping back and taking the more humble approach and wishing her good luck in our first matches here on Divine. I don't know if I'm going to walk out of here a winner because I don't know what Misty is like to be as sure of myself as she seems to be."
"That is a fair statement. If you do win, where do you want to go from there?" the reporter asks.
"The only direction I can go in is up. If I beat Misty, then I guess I would hope that the booker would book me in something a little more challenging. I'd say that week after week after each win because instead of being frozen on a level of comforting victories, where would the push be? I'm here to challenge not only the other divas in the divas locker room, but myself as well. Misty may already know who she is, but I'm still discovering who I am becoming. I want to know where my max out is. I want to see how far I can go before I decide on where my comfort level is. Maybe it's always going to be at the bottom. And if it is, then I am okay with that. But at least if I win this match, I can get a shot to see if I'm ready to move up in this competing industry. Some people rise to the top quickly. That isn't my goal. My goal is to take a steady incline, and if I peak before I get to the top, that's okay."
"Most people come into this industry with hopes of capturing gold. Why do you see comfortable enough to just be a bottom tier competitor?" the reporter continues with the question.
"Well, I suppose it's because I've already had everything I wanted, and it was taken away from me. I don't want to give my hopes up for anything ever again. If I come into contact with a belt along the way, so be it. But it isn't and will never be my overall goal here. I'm planning on taking things one step at a time, starting with Misty Vega tonight. If I don't win, then its back to the drawing board. If I miraculously beat her, then terrific. That lesson will be taught and it will be time to move on to chapter 2. That's how I planned to approach things when I said I would give this wrestling gimmick a try, and I don't plan on changing that strategy," Chaise explains.
"If you do lose, will you reconsider taking Misty's hand in her helping you to climb the ladder with her? Maybe if she beats you, then your source is un-credible if you can't defeat the person they are helping you to train for," the reporter twists.
"Perhaps you're right. It would be silly to turn down the help of someone who helped land you a loss. But at the same time, Misty seems a little, what's the word I want to use? Fickle. She claims she has done things in the past that were not pleasant. Right there sends a mixture of red flags. She was so easily influenced into turning on people who were suppose to be considered her allies. At least that's the story I was given. Why should I trust her to help me? She doesn't even know me," Chaise asks with a slight sneer on her face.
"Fair enough. Is there anyone in the company that has attracted your eye since joining?" the reporter asks.
"As what? A ally? A competitor? A partner? A love interest? You have to be a little more specific," Chaise states confused.
"Any of the above?" asks the reporter.
"There is only one person here who spark any interest with me and they already know who they are. They are the ones that approached me into joining here. It's someone whom I can trust. Someone I practically grew up with. Someone whom people may be like, "really?" when the time comes for them to be introduced as mentor. Someone I hope to maybe someday tag team with if I even make it that far in this company," Chaise continues.
"Well Chaise, we just want to welcome you to Divine and wish you luck tonight!" the interviewer states. "Any last words you like to part with?"
"Sure," Chaise shrugs. She turns to the camera. "Misty. Tonight, you and I are are debuting in our first match of Divine. And although I don't want any help from you regardless of the outcome, I want to give you my respect. It takes a big person to state they will take someone new to a business like this, and offer to show them the ropes. And although I politely decline, in the future, if you need anything. Someone to talk to. Someone to train with. Someone to partner with, then I'm more than wiling to work with you. I don't know if I'm walking out of this match a winner. I hope that I do. But if not, then I will stand and congratulate you. I don't hold grudges. I'm not here to make enemies. I'm not even here to make friends. I'm here to make a statement to myself. So Misty, I wish you good luck. I don't know if you will need it. I"m cocky but not arrogant. And I hope that we put on one hell of a debut match. I can tell you are ready for this match. The question just remains. Am I?"
And with that, Chaise turns around and walks down the hallway with a new foot to her step. She couldn't wait to find out exactly what she was made of.
"The girl is already acting like we are going to be life long friends. She's already offering me her hand of service after she beats me to help me climb the ladder. As noble as the gesture is, I'm sorry Misty but I'm going to have to turn it down. For you see, there is someone better.
