You know that feeling of absolute fear, excitement and pride mixed in together when you walk into high school for that very first time? That's exactly the sort of emotions running through Jessica Anderson right now as she finds herself backstage at a Divine show for the very first time. It's not quite the big pay-per-view debut that some would have hoped for - she's a show too early for that - but it's exactly how she likes it. No real fuss, no drama. Nice and simple. Not too different to that first day at school, really.
The scene fades into the backstage area, as Jessica Anderson drags her suitcase behind her. She arrives, already wearing her one-piece attire as a top, with a pair of yoga leggings as bottoms. She has a skip in her step and a smile very much engraved onto her face as a camera crew approaches her.
"Thank you so much for the warm welcome. It really means a lot. I'm so happy to be here!"
The cameras are quick to notice how she arrived at the arena alone, without her partner. Jessica offers a quick laugh, understanding the confusion.
"Oh, don't worry. I only landed back in Florida this morning, I've not had the chance to meet up with Sophia yet. I can't wait to see her, though. I've got a hug with her name on it!"
When questioned why she made the decision to join Divine at this point in her career, her eyes light up with a smile.
"Those who follow my career will know that I've already done so much of what I want to do, and have found a new love for tag team wrestling. It's a different dynamic to what I was used to, and I love being able to work with women that I'd absolutely trust with my life. Sophia Alva is the reason I'm here. I was desperate to team with her - and I mean desperate. I've seen first hand what she can do inside a wrestling ring, and I want somebody like her as a partner. I know that I can learn a lot from her, and even as I'm approaching the end of my in ring career, it's good to learn."
Jessica takes a few more paces down the hall as she waits for the next question. She is asked about her plans now that she's in Divine.
"Divine is a fantastic company. People are talking like I'm this huge signing as if I'm going to draw more viewers to the product, and maybe that's true. But I'm not here for the spotlight. I don't care about the fame. I might not even justify all the hype yet. This roster is filled with so many wonderful competitors who I've never crossed paths with. Regardless, I'm not here for singles glory. I'm here with my friend, Sophia Alva. She's the one you should be hyped up about!"
Anderson, with a skip in her step, moves closer to the locker room. She waits to see if there are any more questions. Indeed. There's one about Sophia herself, and what made Jessica want to team with her.
"See, on the outside Sophia is a rookie. Let's not beat around the bush. She is. But I've sparred with her, and I'm not afraid to admit that she kicked my butt. She's a well rounded athlete. She's strong, fast, tough, beautiful. Trust me, if she can get enough experience under her belt you're looking at a future great of the industry. She's got so much potential - she can be far greater than me. I want to help her reach it. And along the way, I know that she'll make me better. We compliment each other so well!"
The next question was about what they can offer each other as team mates, as opposed to individuals. Jessica thinks about it for a few seconds.
"That's just it. We offer each other so much! It's not just her ability that made Sophia my dream team mate. It's everything about her. I fell in love with her when I first met her. Her personality, her smile. Hello. She deserves every bit of success she's going to get. I will offer her everything I have. That's a promise I've made to both of my partners, because it's one I can keep. I'll never abandon them!"
The next question, rather fittingly, centers around Jessica and Sophia's opponents: Joanna Rissi and Misty Vega.
"I've heard a few things about Joanna Rissi. Obviously Sophia knows more about her, and I'm sure she'll help me out on that front. But from what I know myself, I can say that she is a fantastic in-ring performer. That much goes without saying, however. She's been fantastic in Divine so far. Sure, she came up a little short last time out. But that happens to the best of us. She's a dangerous opponent for us - especially in our first ever match as a tag team. Talk about a baptism of fire!"
Jessica stops in her tracks, looking directly into the camera with a smile.
"As for Misty Vega, I'd be lying if I say I know an awful lot about her. The fact of the matter is, I don't. All I know is that she and Joanna have some kind of history with each other. Exactly what type of history, I have no idea. I couldn't even begin to speculate. But it is also irrelevant to me. Because tonight they're partners and my opponents. Whatever issues they may or may not have had, they need to put them behind them. It's the best chance they have of victory, perhaps their only chance. No, really. I've quickly realised that the key to tag team wrestling is having one-hundred per-cent trust in your partner. Anything less than that is a recipe for disaster. I have that level of trust in Sophia, and I'm confident that she has it in me. That's why we know that we can be the best tag team in Divine!"
Jessica starts to move again, dragging her suitcase along the cold, hard ground. One of the wheels is loose, so the case occasionally makes a slight creaking noise as it goes.
"Of course, we're not stupid. We know that trust in each other alone will only get you so far. So we've been training together as much as you can. Obviously that's difficult given both of our schedules, but we've managed to find a balance. I think we've done very well in such a short amount of time, too. We know our strengths and over time, we'll be able to stamp out our weaknesses. It won't be easy, of course. There's so many fantastic wrestlers in Divine Wrestling, and there is no such thing as an easy match. However, with the right amount of preparation and effort I truly think that there is absolutely nothing that we cannot achieve. Tonight, Pretty Little Flyers make their debut!"
Jessica winks to the camera and blows a kiss, before quickly accelerating away. Fade to black.
