The fresh air. Oh how the fresh crisp air felt rolling across Misty’s face that let off the expression of bliss. It was mornings like these, mornings before shows, before pay per views, even before training sessions that Misty envisioned and loved. It had been exactly three weeks since Misty technically made her debut at Seasons Bleeding. A debut in which she not only returned to the wrestling industry after countless months off, but a debut in which she reunited with Joanna Rissi, her former tag team partner/ nemesis. Sure Misty and Joanna never have had the most checkered past, but when Misty made the save on Joanna and in turn helped her become victories at Seasons Bleedings, the hope was that Joanna would finally let bygones by bygones and they could start a new.
But on this Saturday it was not about the past with Joanna. It was not about the EHWF and their successful yet dysfunctional tag team pairing. On this Saturday it was about a new edition of Saturday Night Saga for Divine Wrestling. On this Saturday it was about Misty getting back to what she loved when she first entreated this business before it was all ripped away from her by Joshua Samson and the Samson Family in the EHWF. Divine Wrestling was a new start for Misty. There was the hope of no drama. The hope of no enemies trying to screw her over or ditch her when she needed someone the most and best of all, there was the opportunity to finally prove that Misty was one of the greatest female superstars there was to offer.
So on this Saturday, just hours before Saga hit off, Misty was found outside the arena just taking in the fresh air. Baltimore, Maryland had not gotten the snow that had draped the Northeast over the past week, but it was still cool enough to feel the winter season tingling through ones bones. Misty stood there, outside the arena in nothing but a light weight denim jacket, taking it all in. By standers had passed her and not thought more then one inkling of who she was or what she was up to. That is the way Misty liked it. She was under the radar and that made her ever so dangerous.
“Chaise darling, welcome to Divine Wrestling. It seems we both have a lot in common. We both are making our in ring debuts at Saga. We both are females that want to go out and prove we belong. We both have been shattered and broken in past adventures and aren’t quite sure who we even are. Well, the last part may be you more than me. I know who I am. I know who Misty Vega is. I have done my soul searching and I have dug as deep as I could to find myself. Let me indulge you of just who Misty is. You were ever so kind to enlighten me of who you are, so I will gracefully return the favor.
I am a former tag team champion. I am a fierce warrior who went toe to toe with some of the baddest women and men in this wrestling industry and lived to tell about it. I have been beaten, broken, humiliated and insulted. You talk about how if you lose this week there would be no where to go but up? I can tell you that I am living proof of someone who has made it back to their feet after suffering such loss. If that is the path that endures for you after Saga, I am sure you will be just fine. At least you have a job. You have a company that backs and supports you. When I lost it all, I really lost it all. I was forced from the company I made my professional debut it. I was betrayed by the people I called friends. And most of all I thought my life was over.
Why am I telling you this? I don’t want you to feel pity for me, not that you would. I want you to understand that after I beat you on Saga, you have hope. I will lend my hand to you and I will pick you up off the ground. I will be there for you like no one was there for me. That is just the kind of person I am. Trust me Chaise, I am no saint. I have done plenty wrong. Ask Joanna. Ask Michael. Ask anyone that was there at the end of EHWF and they will tell you the mistakes I made. I was a bad person and I was punished for my sins. But that is not now or there. This here is Divine Wrestling and my slate is clean. I am starting off just like you with a 0-0 record. We both have this clean canvas in front of us.
When we fight tonight and when we year the house down, which I know we will, there will be no heads hanging low for the lower. It will be the complete opposite honestly. I have been to the bottom once before, you are afraid you will end up their after our fight but let me tell you this. If we go out there and tear the room off the arena and leave it all on the line. If we both fight with honor and dignity and try to fight passionately and cleanly, well then we will both be victorious regardless of the outcome because the fans will appreciate what we just did.
Chase, this is not the end of your road. Win or lose, this is not the end of my story either. This is only our beginning. The sky is the limit and Saga is the first chapter in the journey. I can only leave you with this. Hang on tight sister because the heights that we will be traveling too, right now you can only imagine.”
Misty smiles as her lip trembles from the passion originating from within. Her hair blows from left to right, barley caressing her face but she does not bat an eye. She remains focused in the direction of the camera until the feed ends sending those watching into anticipation of what could possibly follow for the ‘Fire Cracker’ Misty Vega.
INSIDE THE ROYAL FARMS ARENA
30 MINUTES UNTIL CURTAIN
Unlike where we left off with Misty earlier in the day, we find Ms. Vega anxiously pacing back and forth in the female locker room just moments before Saga was to commence. It was more then just nerves that had Misty in a panic, it was also that she had been waiting for a certain phone call from her sister on the results of a CAT Scan that her sister had forgone too a few days prior. Misty’s sister, Jen, found a lump under her left breast earlier in the week and went for further testing to determine the severity. Ever since Misty first joined EHWF, her sister and her had grown steadily apart. With the time zone changes and the constant torture of being on the road, Misty just didn’t have the time to keep in touch with everyone in her life.
When the news broke of her sister and the possible cancer scare, Misty reverted back to being a sister first and competitor second and flew out to be with her sister during her CAT Scan. That was three days ago. Three very long days ago. The doctors told Jen she would have the results by Saturday and thats where we pick up. Misty had not heard from her sister all day. Her head was not entirely focused on Chaise, how could it be. Misty had hoped that her sister would have called by now with news, but alas nothing. Now with 30 minutes to go before show time, Misty was not quite all there when it came to mental stability.
Continuously checking her phone to see if there was a missed call or a missed text message, Misty was growing impatient. The cool and claim collected person that we all saw earlier in the day was fading rapidly leaving an erratic tempered being in its place.
“For Christ sake what the hell is taking so long? Is it bad news? Is it worse news? Is there any news at all?”
The bickering and muttering amongst herself was doing her no favors to the public watching, though the circumstances did justify the means.
“How am I supposed to go out there and face Chaise? How am I even supposed to be in the right mind set to compete here tonight? I need to go tell management. I need to tell someone that I just cant compete.”
Misty was struggling internally, this was as much told from her language and composure. Just as she was ready to head to whomever would remove her from the match with Chaise, her phone rang. Once, twice, three times it went off. Each ring left Misty frazzled and afraid to pick up for the fear of what could be on the other end. Finally mustering up the courage to answer, Misty held the receiver to her ear and stuttered over her next words.
“He….Hello?”
The cheerful tone of Jens voice echoed over the speaker.
“Hey sis. So I got the results.”
Misty couldn’t tell if Jen was ready to unleash bad news or give a sigh of relief over the current circumstance. There was nothing but silence as Misty waited for Jen to finish her sentence, yet nothing came.
“Are you going to leave me in suspense all night or are you going to spill it. What did the doctor say?”
Her tone was fierce and over powering. Misty realized her reaction and quickly apologized.
“I am sorry Jen. You have had me stressing over here all day waiting for this call. Just give it to me straight.”
“Well, the doctor said it is not cancerous.”
Her heart fluttered with joy at the news that her sister did not have that dreadful disease.
“But there is something they did find sis. And before I tell you, I need you to not over react. You have already been there so much for me recently and I cant have you flying all the back home to Houston, Texas and ruining what you got going in Divine Wrestling. You just made it back to the big times sis. You need to see this one out. Take on your challenger Chaise this week and make it the first of hopefully many wins in Divine.”
Misty could not believe that Jen was dragging this out.
“Yeah fine fine fine. Just tell me, what did they find? Is it a tumor? It is brain damage, heart failure? Just tell me Jen. What are we dealing with here. Whatever it is, we can do this together.”
Jen laughed at the mere fact that Misty immediately started to jump to the absolute worst conclusions. Hell she always did and that was one of the things Jen most admired about her big sister.
“Nothing like that Misty. It’s just that….. I am pregnant. Congrats Auntie Misty.”
Misty was shocked, taken back in fact, at the news that her sister was pregnant. So many thoughts rushed to her head. Did Jen even have a boy friend? Was she planning on keeping the baby? Who would take care of her when Misty was away. There was so much running through Misty’s mind that she almost missed a stage hand knock on the locker room door and hold up his ‘5 fingers’ to indicate the time until the show were to begin.
“Are you going to say anything Misty? I know this is a shock to you, hell it was for me. But I am excited. I am ready. I am going to be a mom, wow just saying it is crazy.”
“I don’t know what to say Jen. This is all so sudden. Minutes ago I thought you were calling to tell me you were dying and now you will be bringing life into this world….Just I am shocked. Sorry.”
“This is good Misty. This is good for me. This is good for you. This is good for us all. Be happy for me, thats all I ask for. And of course you need to start worrying about you. I know how you get right before a match. You may be acting all tough and in charge even if you are a ‘rookie’ to Divine Wrestling, but just like you were in middle school and high school before big games, you are nervous and are starting to doubt your self. So don’t Misty. You got this. Let your skills speak for them selves and just be you. Do not let the past dictate the type of person you want to be inside that ring. Be the wonderful person I know my sister is and then win or lose, you will be a winner in your eyes.
Oh and have fun out there. I see you are competing against another newcomer Chaise. Show her the ropes. Guide her through the match. Pretend she is me. I know how much you wanted to wallop on me sometimes back in the day.”
They both chuckle.
“But in all seriousness Misty, do whats right with Chaise. The girls got heart, I saw it in her promo and I know thats what you are all about.”
“You watched her promo?”
Misty sounded shocked that Jen was taking such interest in the sport that she grew to love.
“I mean, I figured if you were really going to be in this thing for good, I may as well try to learn a little of what makes it so special to you. What are sisters for right?”
“And, I have a feeling there is more to this than just you taking an interest to my likings. It doesn’t necessarily sound like something you would normally do.”
“Okay fine. And, I know how you want to be there for me and help me out during this pregnancy so I was thinking maybe I should come out there to be with you on the road. For a few months at least. You could help me, I could try and give you pointers and help you. What do you say sis? Want to get the band back together.”
Misty laughed.
“Number One, we never had a band and more importantly number two, I would love that. I will book you the next flight out.”
“Yeah about that, I bought my ticket two hours ago after the doctor called me.”
The two share a playful laugh again.
“I probably shouldn’t have expected anything less Jen. So any way, if you are going to be out watching my back, what do you think of my chances of beating Chaise tonight?”
“How much time you have? This may be a long one……”
The scene begins to fade as the two sister converse over Misty’s opponent for Saga, Chaise. Like Chaise said, win or lose both female superstars would be leaving everything out in the ring to prove that they belong in Divine Wrestling. With Jen to join Misty on her incredible journey only time will tell how Misty adjusts and reacts to being back in competitive wrestling with only one goal in mind this time around, to be the very best she can be and that all starts with her march against Chaise tonight on Saturday Night Saga.
